Dr. John Reinisch

John Reinisch, MD is one of world's leading pediatric plastic surgeons and an innovator in his field. He is currently Director of Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, one of America's best hospitals.

Dr. Reinisch is internationally renowned for his innovative treatment of children born with a large variety of congenital and acquired deformities.  He pioneered many of the surgical techniques used today in children’s plastic surgery, including  suture-less wound closure, pediatric tissue expansion, outpatient cleft lip repair, pediatric Botox. and the very early correction of both vascular and pigmented birth marks.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Dr. Reinisch’s development of a cutting-edge technique for ear reconstruction utilizing a porous implant, which is revolutionizing the treatment of microtia, a congenital deformity of one or both ears in which the outer ear is absent. Traditionally, a rib is used to make the new ear during several surgeries and is only available to older children. Dr. Reinisch’s method is performed on children as young as three years of age in a single outpatient surgery. Dr. Reinisch has collaborated with Dr. Joseph Roberson, a neurotologist, to create a unique procedure to reconstruct both the ear and hearing in a single, outpatient surgery, first performed in January 2008.

Dr. Reinisch has contributed more than 100 articles and book chapters to the Plastic Surgery literature and has trained many plastic surgeons. He is the recipient of many awards and honors, including being named one of Castle Connolly’s Best Doctor in America and Best Children’s Specialist by Parent Magazine. He has received honors from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Association of Plastic Surgeons and the European Association of Plastic Surgeons.  In 2010, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles established the annual “John F. Reinisch MD Lectureship in Pediatric Plastic Surgery.”

Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Reinisch  is an honors graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Medical School and completed specialized training in General, Plastic, Hand and Craniofacial surgeries. Recruited to Los Angeles by the University of Southern California, Dr. Reinisch established the Division of Plastic Surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  As Head of Plastic Surgery at both Children’s Hospital and the University of Southern California, he helped develop one of the largest and busiest plastic surgery training programs in the country.

Dr. Reinisch lectures extensively around the world. Many of his patients travel to Los Angeles for treatment. Dr. Reinisch is married and has four children.
